Richard Herrod Leisure Centre will be installing solar panels as part of the ongoing efforts at Gedling Borough Council to reduce its carbon footprint and save on its energy bills.
The installation is part of a larger programme that has already seen panels installed on the roofs of the civic centre at Arnot Hill Park and its garage and office buildings at the nearby depot in Arnold.
385 panels will be installed on the Richard Herrod leisure centre roof and the work is due to be completed by the end of October 2012. The centre hopes that disruption whilst the works are going on will be minimal.
On average, per year, it is estimated the panels will generate approximately 59,500kwh of energy and will save about 35 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
