8.2MW Solar Farm Gets Planning Permission Near Exmoor National Park

Solar developer Juwi has been granted planning permission for building an 8.2MW solar farm project that lies within two kilometres of Exmoor National Park and is a real boast to the high quality portfolio of projects the Company has developed to date.

Prior to the planning application juwi worked very closely with the national park to create an extensive set of land management proposals which will strongly enhance the landscape and provide ecological benefits. Due to the approach juwi took with this project and the awareness of the surrounding landscape the national park had no objections to the scheme once submitted for planning.

In respect of the land management proposals, juwi will create over 300 meters of new Devon bank along a degraded historic field and plant over one kilometre of new hedgerow. The project will also include a wildflower meadow to assist in the creation of a wildlife habitat . The land the project will be developed on is classified as low agricultural grade and sheep will continue to graze on the site after construction.

During the planning process an important archaeological discovery was made on the site and this has been safeguarded for the future and excluded from the development area.

The project once operational will generate over 8,000,000 KWh of renewable electricity per year, saving over 3,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

It is anticipated the project will begin construction in July 2014 and be completed by December 2014.
