Sheffield Fire Station – Powered on Solar!

The latest solar installation by Solar Roof Solutions went live at Sheffield Fire & Rescue Command Centre on Eyre St in the centre of Sheffield. As a heavy consumer of electricity, the 10kWp installation will help the centre off-set some of their carbon emissions, as well as save money on their electricity bills.
The project was undertaken in conjunction with Maidston Energy Ltd with the installation being carried out by Solar Roof Solution’s experienced team. Careful consideration was given to the specific requirements of Sheffield Fire & Rescue. The building is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is equipped to maintain the emergency call centre in the event of a power cut. The system was designed to take into account the building’s three phase supply, back-up generators, UPS equipment and voltage optimization, as well as the amount of space available on the roof.
As the roof space spanned different levels, the flat roof system was laid out as 2 independently tracked strings to maximise yield. The Renusol mounting system was selected as this provided the best solution for this particular installation. They supported 41 Asun 245w monocrystalline panels which fed into an SMA Tripower inverter.
