Morgan Sindall approached JCA Group to undergo the £3 million contract for the mechanical and electrical works involved in extending and refurbishing part of Sudbury Primary School. The works were required by planning to meet a BREEAM rating of `excellent' and Myriad CEG assisted with this by providing solar PV panels.
As part of the refurbishment programme, the school have also incorporated a number of water and energy saving measures and an air source heat pump.
The Requirement:
The specialist contractor was required to supply, install, test and commission a system of photovoltaic panels (PV). These panels had to be installed on the south facing pitched roof of the circular building and set at approximately 7 degrees to achieve the required output. The PV panels had to be secured on a secondary aluminium support frame bolted to primary support posts provided by a steel frame contractor.
The Benefits:
• Predicted Output – 18,389 kWh per annum
• Estimated CO² saving –9,728 kgs per annum
• Feed in tariff rate – 32.9 p per kWh
• Estimated Feed in Tariff income - £6,049.98 per annum
The Solution:
Working with the Project Manager from JCA Group, the architect, the M & E contractor and the principal contractor, Myriad CEG successfully designed a bespoke 24 kW system comprising of 104 Upsolar 23oW polycrystalline modules mounted on a primary structure provided by the principal contractor. Due to the system being installed in a live school environment, our team had to complete the project within a very short timeframe and commission before the school term begun in September 2011.
Rex Hawkes, Senior Electrical Engineer, Frankham Consultancy Group Ltd "Myriad provided a professional, fuss free and efficient solution to our PV generation requirement".
