Brown + Wallace are pleased to confirm that Sunday 12 August 2012 was the official inauguration of a 30KW, 120 solar PV panel array installed on the roof of St Robert Bellarmine RC Church in Pollok, Glasgow.
The solar panel installation was designed and installed by Absolute Solar and Wind Limited and it is understood that this is currently the largest solar panel array on a church in Scotland. The solar panel installation forms part of a wider scheme of fabric repairs to the Pugin and Pugin church which is currently being managed by Brown + Wallace’s Building Surveying team. This project is due for completion at the end of August 2012.
The inauguration service was carried out by Fr Neil McGarrity and was attended by Archbishop Mario Conti and Johann Lamont MSP along with Ken Crilley, Director of Development of the Archdiocese of Glasgow. Archbishop Mario Conti said: “I am delighted to see this scheme get up and running. It is a case of new technology being harnessed both to help the environment and also to support the local community who will benefit from a warmer, drier church building, and some new income which will be used for an array of parish projects.”
Johann Lamont, Scottish Labour Leader and MSP for Glasgow Pollok, said: “I would like to congratulate St Robert Bellarmine’s on this forward-thinking and innovative measure to reduce the area’s carbon footprint and bring down energy costs in the church. This is now the third church in Glasgow to use solar power technology to bring down costs and sets a great example for other organisations and businesses in the community.”
